Texas cedar elm (aka rock elm) charcuterie board, burned with Lichtenberg figures and filled with gold mica epoxy. 8 x 17" with satin nickel finished stainless steel handles. Cedar elm (ulmus crassifolia) is an infinitely harder elm than its northern counterpart American elm and is rarely found as a woodworking product. The grain finish is unlike anything I've worked with aside from the densest of hardwoods like mesquite and tropical exotics, as it sands to a virtually glass-like smoothness. Ranging throughout the South from North Florida across to Texas, it's a great choice as a sustainable wood since it isn't commercially harvested. This wood was salvaged from downed trees in the San Antonio area.
